Routing choices are shaping port performance

As vessel capacity improves on some trade lanes, the factors influencing delivery performance are changing. Gateway selection, transshipment exposure, inland transportation connections, container availability and carrier network design are becoming more important determinants of reliability.

During periods of widespread congestion, securing space is often the primary challenge. Today, two deliveries moving between the same regions can experience very different outcomes depending on the gateways, inland transportation networks and carrier services supporting the move.
